Match Play betting preview
When the WGC World Matchplay moved higher into the Arizona mountains last year, to the Ritz-Carlton Club at Dove Mountain, two aspects of the discount golf clubs course stood out: it was long (7,883 yards long!) and the greens were wildly undulating(ishiner).
2009 semi-finalist Ross Fisher, on the other hand, does seem worthy of closer attention. If we’re after length, he’s got taylormade r9 driver - he knocks his tee shots 290 yards and more on average.
If we want proof he can play the course, last year’s effort does the trick.
The Ritz Carlton course is also a Jack Nicklaus course which, added to its length callaway x-22 irons, calls to mind the London GC where Fisher won the European Open by seven shots in 2008.
There is also the memory of his impressive win in the Volvo World Matchplay Championship titleist ap2 irons last autumn - further proof of his matchplay skills.
There are some very strong European representatives this week but Fisher gets my nod at 33/1.
If local residency is a factor, look no further than Ryan Moore whose two missed cuts in his taylormade r7 cgb max Irons last two starts have seen his odds rise to a very attractive price.
